Intro

After a few months playing Civ5 I realised that the new edition completely missed the mark on strategy. Even though it was very pretty and clearly a lot of thought had gone into the combat mechanics the rest of the game fell flat. Looking for a new strategy game I realised I hadn't quite finished with my Civ4 addiction. Civ4 is the pinnacle of turn-based strategy and I doubt another game will come close to it any time soon given it has had 3 successors and decades to play and refine.

Where I left off with Civ4. I had toyed with the HOF games, only completing one or two. I am a consistent (90%+) winner in Prince games and have spent about a year on Monarch. I have a fairly poor win ratio on Monarch - maybe 20%.

I'll use this series of blogs to track my progress in picking up what is possibly my favourite game. Hopefully by posting my failures I'll remind myself (and possibly teach others) of the common mistakes and pitfalls to refine my game play.
